Electronic Press Kit - ON TOUR NOW!
“Few bands in the punk/alternative/grunge realm are as exciting as Castle Black. With each subsequent release- and there are many- these New Yorkers only get more interesting, more unconventional and more dynamic in their approach.” - Take Effect Magazine
Bio:
Castle Black is an ever-evolving thunderstorm of sound on a back-drop of addictive hooks and edgy soundscapes. Described as drawing from punk, post-punk, grunge, alternative, and new wave, Castle Black defies the average rock genre. Tap dancing in a live rock performance? Now you have seen it all.
“Castle Black have created a new sound of uncompromised work that have drawn comparisons to nearly every type of underground rock from the last four decades.” (The Aquarian) With an intense live show, “impossible to tell what was coming next, except that it was bound to be loud and hard and intense – and catchy" (NY Music Daily), Castle Black is a “reminder of what dominating guitar riffs, melodic basslines, booming drums and a powerful singer with rock prowess can do.” (Subversive Zine)
“Castle Black have been carving up a unique niche of music that is bold, powerful, intense, and special, delivering a soulful brand of alternative rock/grunge filled with feminine angst and plenty of hooks that will mesmerize you from beginning to end.” (Stage 1 Press) 2024’s first single off the full-length album, “Bright-Eyed,” landed on Turn Up the Volume’s 2024 Top Singles from Upcoming Albums list and on Scenes from the Underground’s Top 20 Songs of 2023 list. The music video was selected for the first ever Maker Park Radio Music Video Showcase that took place in Staten Island in April 2024. The band released two more singles, “Heart Can’t Feel” and “Fly,” both with stunning dance-filled videos, in March and May 2024, respectively, in advance of the June 2024 full album release of The Highway at Night. “Fly (Just Try),” is a personal and cutting song about Leigh’s own journey with the chronic conditions of endometriosis, adenomyosis, and fibroids.
Their first full-length album, The Highway at Night, was released on June 21, 2024. The album was produced and mixed by Mark Plati (known for his work with David Bowie and Prince, among others) and recorded with Oliver Strauss at Mission Sound in NYC.
Their live performance is electric and constantly keeping the audience on their toes. As seen in the music video, Leigh skillfully merges her tap dancing background into their live performance of “Heart Can’t Feel,” excitedly surprising people there to see Castle Black for the first time. Joey continues to inspire awe in the crowd with his dynamic and unique drumming. Mostly playing as a duo, people say their sound is much larger than that.
Castle Black regularly tour the United States and Canada. For a full list of where they have been, check out their Bands in Town history.

“Some songs just have *that* riff, you know the one, a riff that hooks you right from the get-go—hook, line and sinker—-a riff so sturdy it easily serve as the foundation for an entire three-to-four minute song with some subtle variations and layerings thrown in for good measure but still THE RIFF REIGNS SUPREME like with Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’ or White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ or Ramones’ ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’…”

“In 2019, a year during which pop princess Ariana Grande headlined Lollapalooza, Castle Black frontperson Leigh Celent is a welcome breath of fresh indie-rock air. Celent and Castle Black have created a new sound of uncompromised work that have drawn comparisons to nearly every type of underground rock from the last four decades. To say the singer-songwriter is a star in the making would be a severe understatement, and she has only just begun to scratch the surface.” - - - - The Aquarian
